Australian Cyber Crime Report Released

Last Month, the Australian Government issued the mega Report of the Inquiry into Cyber Crime, titled: "Hackers, Fraudsters and Botnets: Tackling the Problem of Cyber Crime", which mainly looks into the possibilities of containing cyber crime. Report looks into the various aspects of Cyber Crime, its definition, trend, types, causes, etc. And recommends measures like:

  • No Anti Virus - No Internet Connection !
  • The creation of an around-the-clock cyber crime helpline.
  • Changes to the law to make unauthorised installation of software illegal.
  • Companies who release IT products with security vulnerabilities should be open to claims for compensation by consumers.
  • ISPs mandatory obligation to inform end users when their IP address has been identified as linked to an infected machine(s).
  • Systematic Cyber Crime data collection that allows data to be aggregated.
  • E-security alerts tailored to the needs of ordinary consumers and small and medium sized businesses.
  • Public information about cyber crime types and preventative measures to increase online personal security.
  • Identify processes that should be put in place to identify fraudulent activity before the domain name registration takes effect and the type of information that should be collected during the process by the registrar, that would help to preserve evidence and assist law enforcement authorities.
