Information Technology (Amendment) Act passed

Information Technology (Amendment) Act passed by the Parliament prescribes stiff punishment for offences related to misuse of computers and communication equipment, Cyber Terrorism, Obscene Marterial, etc.

  • transmitting sexually explicit materials in electronic form, video voyeurism, breach of confidentiality, leakage of data by intermediary and e-commerce frauds.

  • dishonestly receiving stolen computer resource, identity theft, cheating by impersonation using computer resource.

  • indulging in cyber terrorism with the intent of threatening the unity, integrity, security or sovereignty of the country or striking terror in the people.

  • gives the government endless power to intercept or monitor any information through any computer resource, thereby violating individual's right to privacy.

  • provides for functions of Indian Computer Emergency Response Team, which has already been actively contributing to the Information Security for the last few years visit: www.cert-in.org.in
